The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), through the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valleys Development Company (Codevasf), will invest R$ 32.6 million in the implementation of a pipeline that will carry treated water from the Junco district, in Juazeiro, to the Curral Velho region, in Campo Formoso.

Investment in treated water for communities in Bahia

The project will benefit more than 6,000 people in the communities of Alegre, Bebedouro Grande, Gangorra, Campestre, Goiabeira, Manga, Manoel Patrício, Marruá, Passagem do Sargento, Pateiro, Pau Preto and Sobradinho, in Juazeiro, and Curral Velho, in Campo Formoso. The work order to begin construction has already been signed.

“We will provide water to several communities in Juazeiro and Campo Formoso, promoting dignity for these needy families, so that they can start receiving treated water directly from the taps in their homes,” highlights the National Secretary of Water Security of the MIDR, Giuseppe Vieira.

“These communities, even though relatively close to the São Francisco River, are still supplied by water trucks, meaning they don't receive the same quality of water they will receive when the pipeline is ready,” adds Giuseppe Vieira. Water trucks are hired whenever it is necessary to transport water to a place that has no water at all or not enough to meet consumer demand.

Investments in equipment for the municipality of Campo Formoso

The Ministry of Rural Development (MIDR), through Codevasf, also invested R$ 5.7 million in the donation of machinery and equipment to the municipality of Campo Formoso, including a van, a truck, three wheel loaders, four backhoe loaders, three motor graders, and a hydraulic excavator.

Furthermore, service orders were also signed to begin other federal works in the municipality of Bahia, including the drilling and installation of 11 tubular wells in sedimentary soil to serve rural communities, with investments of R$ 969,800; the implementation of a covered multipurpose yard, budgeted at R$ 1.2 million, and five uncovered multipurpose yards, with resources of R$ 1.7 million.
