Firearm and drugs seized during police operation in Campo Formoso, Bahia.

Early this Tuesday morning (05/09), military police officers from the 54th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM) of Campo Formoso seized a firearm and a large quantity of drugs in the region.

Integrated operation results in the apprehension of a suspect.

The police operation was the result of information received from the Public Security Secretariat of Bahia (SSP-BA), in conjunction with the Rondesp Chapada de Itaberaba and the 42nd CIPM of Lençóis. The security agencies were aware of a man with an outstanding arrest warrant who was traveling in the Campo Formoso region.

Chase leads to shootout

During routine patrol on highway BA-220, police officers spotted a suspicious vehicle which, upon noticing the approaching police car, fled down a side road. The officers pursued the vehicle and, upon attempting to stop it, two individuals got out and fired at the officers, initiating a shootout.

A suspect is found dead and drugs are seized.

After the shooting ended, one of the suspects was found wounded on the ground, but still showing vital signs. The second suspect managed to escape into the nearby vegetation. The wounded man was taken to São Francisco Hospital in Campo Formoso, but died. A .380 caliber pistol was found on him. Furthermore, inside the Fiat Siena vehicle used by the suspects, a large quantity of a white substance, appearing to be cocaine, packaged in plastic bags, was found.

Materials seized

  • 01 (one) .380 caliber pistol, Taurus brand, with extended magazine;
  • 08 (eight) .380 caliber cartridges, CBC brand;
  • 05 (five) large plastic bags containing a whitish substance appearing to be cocaine;
  • 04 (four) smaller plastic bags containing a whitish substance appearing to be cocaine;
  • 04 (four) transparent adhesive tapes;
  • 01 (one) box of disposable surgical gloves.

The 54th CIPM, under the command of Major PM Gil Santana, and subordinate to the Northern Region Police Command, commanded by Colonel PM Valter Araújo, remains committed to fighting crime in the Campo Formoso region.
