Optimizing public health in Senhor do Bonfim: cornea donation for transplantation.
The restructuring process of public health in Senhor do Bonfim has gained another important chapter. This Thursday, the Dom Antônio Monteiro Hospital – HDAM, through the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation – CIHDOTT, carried out, for the first time in history, the harvesting of corneas for transplantation. This achievement represents a significant advance for the municipality, which was recently accredited and trained its professionals to meet this demand.
A milestone in the municipality's health sector.
When the family authorizes the donation, CIHDOTT performs the removal of the ocular tissue and sends it to the Eye Bank through the State Transplant Center. Currently, there are 1,182 people on the waiting list for a cornea to regain their sight. On this historic day, it is important to thank not only the CIHDOTT team, but also the families who had the nobility to help other people, even in the midst of a moment of great pain and loss.
CIHDOTT Team
CIHDOTT is composed of the following professionals:
- Karine Simas – President
- Leilane Emanuelle – Coordinator and Ocular Tissue Collector
- Larissa Borges – member
- Kessia Vale – Social Worker
- Alexandre Maia - Psychologist
- Rafael Ayres - Medical Director
The importance of family dialogue
In Brazil, transplants can only occur with the authorization of a family member of the donor. Therefore, it is essential to discuss your wish to be a donor with your family and help save lives through organ and tissue donation.
