The service was made available in 2020 with the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic as a temporary measure to support Brazilians during the crisis.
Who is eligible?
All Brazilian workers who have active or inactive accounts affiliated with the Guarantee Fund for Length of Service (FGTS) can access this benefit.
However, if the employee receives two FGTS payments, they are only entitled to one payment, which must be paid in the following order:
Bank accounts linked to expired employment contracts, starting with the account with the lowest balance;
All other linked accounts, starting with the account with the lowest balance.
According to Caixa Econômica Federal, approximately 60 million workers will have access to the withdrawal, with more than R$37.8 billion in government investments.
