This Thursday, the Dom Ant\u00f4nio Monteiro Hospital \u2013 HDAM, through the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation \u2013 CIHDOTT, carried out, for the first time in history, the harvesting of corneas for transplantation. This achievement represents a significant advance for the municipality, which was recently accredited and trained its professionals to meet this demand.<\/p>\n<h2>A milestone in the municipality&#039;s health sector.<\/h2>\n<p>When the family authorizes the donation, CIHDOTT performs the removal of the ocular tissue and sends it to the Eye Bank through the State Transplant Center. Currently, there are 1,182 people on the waiting list for a cornea to regain their sight.
